Find answers to common questions about BabyJot
BabyJot stores all data directly on your device using your browser's localStorage. Your baby's information never leaves your device and is never uploaded to any server. When you close or refresh the app, your data is still there — it persists until you explicitly clear it or use the Factory Reset.
Yes, completely. BabyJot is a privacy-first app — all data is stored locally on your device. We have no access to any information you log. Your data stays on your phone or browser at all times.
The only external services used are analytics (Google Analytics, Hotjar) for the website itself, and ads on the blog pages. The tracker at /tracker contains no ads.
Yes! From the Settings tab in the tracker, you can:
- Export all logs as a JSON file
- Export all logs as a CSV file
- Import a previously exported JSON file to restore your data
This makes it easy to back up your data or transfer it to a new device.
BabyJot covers all the core tracking categories new parents need:
- Feeding — Breast (left/right stopwatch), bottle volume & milk type, pumping, baby food
- Diapers — Pee, poop, or both; poop colour, consistency, and leakage
- Sleep — Stopwatch or manual entry, with location
- Health — Bath time, temperature, medications with dosage, symptoms
- Growth — Weight and length over time with a chart
Yes! Because all data is stored locally on your device, BabyJot works fully offline. You don't need an internet connection to log events, view your timeline, or see charts.
BabyJot saves the timer's start time to localStorage the moment you press Start. When you reopen the app, it picks up where it left off by calculating elapsed time from the saved start time. You won't lose your session.
localStorage typically holds around 5MB of data. Since BabyJot stores only text and numbers (no photos), this is enough for tens of thousands of log entries — many years of tracking.
The Settings tab shows your current storage usage and will warn you if you're approaching the limit.
Yes. In the Settings tab, you can switch between metric (ml, kg, cm, °C) and imperial (oz, lbs, in, °F). All data is stored in metric internally — the conversion happens at display time, so you can switch back and forth without losing any data.
Currently BabyJot uses local browser storage, so data is tied to the device and browser you use. You can use the export/import feature in Settings to transfer your data to another device.
Yes, BabyJot is completely free. There are no subscriptions, premium tiers, or hidden fees. If you find it valuable, you can optionally buy the creator a coffee to support the project.
